Like most small businesses, our story started with modest beginnings. Empire Office Furniture was founded in New York City by Abraham Gaslow 78 years ago. Our first sale was a desk which we hand-delivered from our office in downtown Manhattan to our financial services client on Wall Street. Over the years, our client list has even included Marilyn Monroe, who purchased a file cabinet in 1959.

Today, Empire is the largest Steelcase dealer nationwide with 400+ manufacturers represented and 500 employees across the US. We are proud to be ranked as one of Crain’s New York Business’ Largest Privately Owned Companies year after year.
